"Soul Sculpting"

the spiritual formation of Jesus Christ

Glandion Carney

Examining the scriptures, Rev Carney developed a framework of the spiritual practices that informed and sustained Jesus life and ministry. From his rich experience he helped us apply them to our own lives. Rev. Carney has served in a variety of ministries - youth, college chaplain, startup church pastor - and now is chaplain of the Christian Legal Society in Birmingham, AL. He is author of several books including most recently Missing Peace: A Modern Parable on Recovering Your Soul in a Material World.

Quaker Spirituality: Listening to the Inward Christ

Kathryn Damiano

Exploring the common roots of Quakers and other Christian traditions, Ms. Damiano shared the Quaker perspectives on finding God in everyday life, creating a culture of listening, and the community that evolves from a life of faith.  She offered guidance as well in corporate and personal discernment (clearness committees.)  Kathryn was a teacher and spiritual director at Pendle Hill, the Quaker retreat center near Philadelphia. She now lives with the Friends of Jesus Community in Wichita, Kansas where their focus is interracial reconciliation and economic justice.

The Nebraska Five Day Academy for Spiritual Formation is sponsored by the Board of Laity and Discipleship of the Nebraska United Methodist Annual Conference under the authority of The Upper Room.
