Future Academies

The Academy for Spiritual Formation as a ministry of the Upper Room was founded in 1983.  Danny E. Morris was instrumental in visioning, developing and then heading the Academy for several years.  The original model was a two year model which met for five days eight times during the two year cycle.  The content of the two-year model follows a set curriculum.  Participants in the two-year model soon clamored for an other option that would be more available to persons who also sought such encouragement and refreshment on their spiritual journeys but who could not afford the two year commitment.  This was the birth of the Five Day Academy for Spiritual Formation model.

The first Nebraska Five Day Academy for Spiritual Formation was held in the year 1991.  Through the efforts of Pastors Jean Esther Dale, Don Bredthauer and Carolyn Waters, financial underwriting was obtained from the Nebraska Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Board of Laity and Discipleship.  The Academy has been held in the state annually since that time.  The Nebraska Academy has also become financially self-supporting though it is operates under the umbrella of the the Leadership Development Team of the Nebraska Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
